The temple's origins are said to date back to 1325 CE (Kagei 1), when nine residents of the Monma district took refuge in Shinran's teachings and built a simple thatched hut. The temple was relocated to its current location in 1760 CE (Horei 10) and renamed Takehana Betsuin in 1886 CE (Meiji 19).
