Shiomanji Temple
沼津市下香貫林ノ下1989
A Nichiren sect temple located in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Its mountain name is Kakanzan, and it is also known by the alternate name Kakan Enmanji.
History
Founded in 1556 CE (Koji 2) by inviting Jissaiin Nichinyu as the founding abbot. It is said that the halls were repaired and revived during the tenure of Koyo-in Nichimatsu, but the main hall and storehouses were completely destroyed by the Ansei Tokai Earthquake. The Lotus Sutra Sect Temple Register lists it as 'Kakan Enmanji in Suruga Province,' but because the place name Shioman is homophonous with the temple name, it came to be called 'Shiomanji.'
