History

It is said that the first shrine was established when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi enshrined a Hachiman deity at the site where he had set up a sacred offering while praying for victory in battle. It was later rebuilt by Minamoto no Yoritomo as Minamoto-eizan Hachiman-jinja and eventually became the general guardian shrine of Inage-shō. In 1873 (Meiji 6), it was designated as a Kōsha (village shrine) and came to be known as Shirahata Hachiman Daijin.
