When Katamura Kojuro was granted the castle grounds in recognition of his role in Date Masamune's conquest of Shiraishi Castle, the shrine was relocated to its current site and revered as the guardian of Shiraishi Castle. It was revived in 1877 CE (Meiji 10), and between 1909 CE (Meiji 42) and 1914 CE (Taisho 3), five other shrines were merged into it.
