The temple declined due to the Meiji-era separation of Shinto and Buddhism and the abolition of the feudal domains, suffering hardships such as the sale of its principal image. Later, through fundraising efforts, it was rebuilt on its current site in 1930. After several name changes, it became the present-day Shofukuji Temple.
