History
The temple originated from a Taishido (Crown Prince Hall) built when Prince Shotoku visited the Mikawa region. When the monk Mankenjojo fell ill and passed away while recuperating at the Taishido, his disciples established the temple with him as its founding figure. During the Kamakura period, Minamoto no Norimaru was converted by Shinran and became his disciple. He renamed the temple Taishi-yama Jo-in Shohoji and changed its affiliation from the Tendai sect to the Jodo Shinshu sect.
