Shrine
秩父市上吉田
Long revered as the head shrine of the Chichibu region, it displays a solemn and beautiful presence within a forest of oak trees.
History
From the medieval period onward, it merged with the Myoken faith venerated by the Chichibu Hata clan and flourished as 'Chichibu Myoken-gu' until the early Meiji era. The current shrine buildings were constructed in 1592 CE (Tenshō 20) through the donation of Tokugawa Ieyasu. They preserve the Gongen-zukuri architectural style of the early Edo period and are designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Saitama Prefecture.
