History
Founded in 1071 CE (Enkyu 3) by Kikuchi Noritaka, the first head of the Kikuchi clan, who enshrined Kasuga Daimyojin (the Great Deity of Kasuga) and established the temple as a shrine-protected temple. In 1632 CE (Kan'ei 9), Hosokawa Tada-mitsu bestowed the name Shuun-in and revived the temple. Following his death, his remains were cremated at this temple in accordance with his will.
