History
According to shrine tradition, the shrine was founded when a son of Emperor Suinin enshrined the deity Kotoshironushi as a god of war. It was established as the head shrine of Uzen Province during the mid-to-late Heian period when the provincial governor built a Sosa (head shrine) near the provincial government office. After burning down in 1566 CE (Eiroku 9), it was rebuilt at its current location during the Genki era (1568–1573 CE). A major renovation was carried out in 1616 CE (Genna 2) by Akiyoshi Uchikawa.
