The founding date is unknown, but oral tradition dates it to the Kamakura period. It was rebuilt during the An'ei era. In 1875 (Meiji 8), it was designated as a village shrine. When the shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in 1934 (Shōwa 9), Miyoshi Shrine was merged into it. In 1935 (Shōwa 10), it was renamed Sumisakuyoshi Shrine.
