History
In 1585 CE (Tenshō 13), it is said that the shrine was established by Hachisuka Nagahisa, the lord of Tokushima Domain, upon the construction of Azumi Castle under the orders of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It served as a deity to guard the yin direction (kimon) of the castle. It is also reported that the Suwa Myō Shrine, which was located on the northeastern foot of Castle Mountain, was relocated to its current site. Another theory suggests that it was a branch shrine established from the Suwa Shrine in Urasō, Ishii Town, Nishi District. In May 1870 CE (Meiji 3), it was designated as a Kōsha (a shrine of local importance).
