Founded in 1632 CE (Kan'ei 9) by the abbot of Gansei-ji Temple, Yuuren. It is said that the lord of Tokushima Domain, Hachisuka Shizumi, became the great patron (dai-gonushi) and donated the mountain gate, sutra hall, guest quarters (bōjaku), storehouse (kurō), and a statue of Bishamonten (the Buddhist guardian deity of the north).
