Taikozan Joosenji (Taikozan Joosenji Temple)
名古屋市中村区中村町木下屋敷47番地
A Nichiren sect temple said to be one of the birthplaces of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, enshrining the Dai Mandara (Great Mandala) as its principal image. The temple grounds house temple treasures including portraits and wooden statues of Hideyoshi, as well as a fan, tea kettle, and inkstone said to have been his personal belongings.
History
In 1606 CE (Keicho 11), Kato Kiyomasa invited Nichiren sect priest Nisou Shonin to serve as the founding abbot, establishing the site as a shrine hall dedicated to Toyokuni Daimyojin (Toyotomi Hideyoshi). After a fire in 1615 CE (Genna 1) destroyed the buildings, priest Nitantan Shonin built a thatched hut on the ruins and named it Joosenji. The surviving Myokuden Hall was later entrusted to his disciple, Nichishou.
