The shrine's origins date back to 1496 CE (Meiō 5), when Shikibuchi Chingon enshrined Inari Daimyōjin (the Great Deity of Inari) at Kamishiro Castle as its guardian deity, inviting the deity from Fushimi Inari Taisha (Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine). During the Edo period, the chief priest of Kaizō-ji Temple, Yoshimoto, received a divine revelation to revive the shrine and rebuilt the main hall at its current location in 1661 CE (Kanbun 1). The shrine adopted its current name during the Meiji Restoration and became a Besshyō Shrine (a shrine listed on the special register) under the Association of Shinto Shrines after World War II.
