The shrine was founded in 1895 (Meiji 28) when the Takasu Village Head Office opened and invited deities to perform a consecration ceremony within the office building. In 1901 (Meiji 34), the current site was granted, and the main hall was constructed the following year in 1902 (Meiji 35). In 1942 (Shōwa 17), it became the first rural shrine in Hokkaido to be designated as a Prefectural Shrine (Kenja).
