History

It is said that the shrine began in the Hakuhō period when Takechibara Maro invited the deity of Kumanoo Gongen from Kii Province to this location and constructed the shrine buildings. In the early modern period, it was venerated as the guardian deity of the Kishu (northeast) direction of Tsuyama Castle in Mimasaka Province, and was widely revered as the 'Taki pilgrimage' until the Meiji era. During the Meiji period, the approach path was converted into a military training ground, leading to the construction of a remote worship site (Yōhaiso) in the Taishō era.
