History
Founded in 1441 by Daikoku Enchu as Jōkūji, it was moved to its current location and renamed Kokugai Takushoji in 1535 after Sone Takamasa converted to the temple and made donations. Although the halls were destroyed by a fire in 1807 (Bunka 4), they were rebuilt with donations from Kato Yasuoki, the lord of Ōzu Domain. The temple is also known as 'Kusunoki-ji' (Camphor Tree Temple) due to the high-quality camphor wood used in its construction.
