〒343-0024 埼玉県越谷市越ヶ谷2549

4.1(51)

A Jodo-shu (Pure Land Buddhism) temple located in Koganei City, Saitama Prefecture. It is also the 27th stop on the Musashi Province 33 Kannon Pilgrimage Sites.

History

Founded in 1478 CE with Sen'a Gentyo as the founding priest, established by Oda Nobunaga's contemporary Oda Nobushige (Ota Dōkan). In 1591 CE, Tokugawa Ieyasu granted temple lands to the institution. The fourth abbot was Jo-yo, who was said to be the third prince of Emperor Go-Komyo. Due to its high status, many abbots were transferred here from prominent head temples of the Jodo-shu sect, such as Chion-in and Zojoji.
