The exact date of founding is unknown, but it is said to have been established during the Tenbun era (1532-1555 CE). Its former name was Aoki Myojin Sugiya Myojin Gassha, and it served as the chief guardian shrine for the three villages of Ue-Tetsu, Naka-Tetsu, and Shimo-Tetsu. In 1929 CE (Shōwa 4), it was designated as a shrine for the offering of sacred food and silk, and in 1972 CE (Shōwa 47), the current main hall was newly constructed and the deities were enshrined there.
