In 1603 (Keicho 8), Tokugawa Tadayoshi, the lord of Kiyosu Castle, either moved a shrine dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto to its current location or invited the deity Gyozu Tenno from Tsushima Shrine. As a token of gratitude for his recovery from illness, Tadayoshi constructed the main hall, worship hall, and shrine temple in 1606 (Keicho 11). During the Meiji period, the associated temple, Tenpuku-ji, was abolished due to the Order for the Separation of Buddhism and Shinto, and the shrine continued with Susanoo-no-Mikoto as its enshrined deity.
