History
In 1121 CE (Hoan 2), Minamoto no Yoshimitsu restored the various halls as a place of prayer for the protection of the state and named it Kokokuin. During the Kamakura period, Lanxi Daolong restored it as a Zen temple and renamed it Tokoji. In the Sengoku period, it received the patronage of Takeda Harunobu, and the mountain name was changed to Hokkai-san while the temple name was changed to Toko Kokoku Zenji.
