Later, Kiyonaga developed a devotion to the Gongen (manifested deity) and invited a branch spirit (bunrei) to be enshrined there; he also relocated the main gate of the residence, leading to the temple being known as Tokuin-in Gongen. As a major temple of the Hiko-yama school under the protection of the domain, it received donations and construction efforts from figures such as Nabeshima Katsuhiro.
