Following the lifting of the ban on Nembutsu in the former Satsuma Domain, the temple received authorization as a Hongan-ji preaching station of the sect in October 1882 CE (Meiji 15) and constructed its main hall (honden) in April 1884 CE (Meiji 17). The official temple name was established in June 1893 CE (Meiji 26) when it relocated from Kyoto Prefecture to its current location. The founding priest was Ohara Saisho, and the temple continues to this day following the 100th-anniversary project in 1986 CE (Showa 61).
