In 1883, movements to establish a shrine at the birthplace of Toyotomi Hideyoshi gained momentum, and its founding was decided in July of that year. Construction was completed in January 1885. In 1901, the shrine was incorporated into Nakamura Park. In 1956, it was separated from the park grounds and established as an independent shrine precinct.
