A temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, it is designated as the 43rd site of the 88 Pilgrimage Sites of the Eastern Region, the 27th site of the 33 Kannon Pilgrimage Sites of Yokohama, and the 12th site of the 21 Kobo Daishi Sites of Yokohama.
History
It was founded by the monk Kenkaku Daitoku during the Bunji era (1185-1190 CE). It is said that Matsuno Chikuzen-no-kami, the local lord at the time, constructed and donated the temple buildings. The temple was revived by the monk Gakuju Shonin during the Genwa era (1615-1624 CE). In 1649 CE (Keian 2), it received a certificate of land grant for the Yakushi-do hall from the Edo Shogunate. The temple relocated to its current location in 1900 CE (Meiji 33).
