In 1297 CE (Eiun 5), Tsubaki Yoshichika, the lord of Kaga Province, invited the deity from Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto to Yamazaki. During the Onin period, the shrine was relocated to Inai Village in Kinko District due to the Ikkō-ikki uprisings, and was designated as a place of prayer for the Maeda clan and the guardian deity of the castle. In the Meiji era, it was classified as a Gōsha (village shrine) and later promoted to a Kensha (prefectural shrine).
