Tsukuhara Hachimangu Shrine

This shrine is said to have been founded in 830 CE (Tencho 7) as a branch shrine of Usa Hachimangu, serving as the foremost shrine in the former Bungo Province. It displays nationally designated Important Cultural Properties, including swords and Buddhist statues.

A solemn shrine surrounded by cedar trees, with vast grounds dotted with sacred trees, including giant camphor trees designated as National Natural Monuments. Visitors can enjoy a landscape harmonizing nature with historic buildings featuring beautiful carvings, such as the ornate gate and the restored main hall. The recommended route for worship involves climbing stairs from the parking lot.
