The site is also said to have been the location of the residence of the Ie clan. It came to be called Tsunkura Shrine from the Meiji era. Additionally, there is a tradition that a shrine called Hie no Yashiro, which enshrined Amaterasu no Himi (the ancestral deity of the Hie clan), existed here in ancient times.
