History
The site is said to be the former residence of Achi-no-Tsukune, who came from the continent during the reign of Emperor Ōjin, the 15th emperor. In the late 7th century, Hikuwai-ji Temple was established as the clan temple of the Tohara clan. Subsequently, this shrine was founded as the guardian shrine (Chinju-sha) of Hikuwai-ji Temple. During the Edo period, it was known as Goryō Myōjin. In 1907, the main hall (honden) was relocated to the site of the former Hikuwai-ji Temple.
