Founded in 1500 CE (Meiyo 9) by Gyokuho Sūmen, with the patronage of Tsurumi Yasumune, the lord of Kitano Castle. During the Edo period, it received a land grant of 18 koku 8 to and was granted the right to use the hollyhock crest. It is also known as the place where Kakuma Shiko, the founder of the Mino school of haikai poetry, spent his childhood.
