History
Founded in 1496 by the abbot Tsuge Endatsu-an. Initially a Rinzai Zen temple, it converted to the Soto Zen sect in 1502 when Oda Akie invited the monk Bakugan Ryosa to serve as the founding abbot. In 1591, due to the connection of Tokugawa Ieyasu resting at the temple, Ieyasu granted a shuinjo (a seal-verified document) guaranteeing a temple domain of 30 koku.
