History
The shrine is said to have been founded in the 10th century. Its origins trace back to Tachibana Naokimi, who invited the spirit of Michizane to worship during his return journey from Dazaifu to the capital. In 1090 CE (Kanchi 4), Emperor Shirakawa visited the shrine and offered a chrysanthemum-patterned curtain. During the Edo period, Asano Yukinaga carried out a major reconstruction, creating important cultural properties such as the main hall (honden) and the two-story gate (ro-mon).
