There is a legend that Takeuchi no Sukune planted a small pine tree in this area, which became the origin of the place name 'Wakamatsu'. Additionally, there is a tradition that Hiko Daijingu (the Grand Shrine of Hiko) was founded during the reign of Emperor Murakami.
