Traditionally said to have been founded during the Ninna era (885-889 CE), it is the deity of childbirth for Nirasaki City. In 1583, a landslide caused by a violent storm destroyed the shrine buildings, leading to their reconstruction at the current location two years later. Since then, the shrine has reached its present form through the confirmation of shrine lands by the Tokugawa family and numerous renovations.
