Wari Shrine
〒989-2351 宮城県亘理郡亘理町旧舘32
This shrine was established to honor the achievements of Date Awa-no-kami Narimichi, with Takehachitakeo-no-Mikoto as its principal enshrined deity (kami).
History
In 1879 (Meiji 12), a shrine building was constructed on the site of the main keep of Gyuugan Castle to honor the achievements of Date Awa-no-kami Narimichi, the founding lord of the Wari Domain, and it was named Wari Shrine. In 1907 (Meiji 40), five shrines were merged into this site. In 1932 (Shōwa 7), it was designated as a shrine receiving government stipends for offerings. Within the grounds, there is also a Yamanouchi Shrine enshrining Konohanasakuya-hime as a deity of childbirth, and a Hachiman Shrine that received a branch spirit from Usa Hachiman-gū.
