History
Founded in 1078 CE through the enshrinement of a branch spirit (bunrei) from Hikawa Shrine, the Ichinomiya (chief shrine) of Musashi Province. When Shimo-no-Hikawa Shrine was established in 1351 CE, a mortar inscribed with the era name was buried beneath the main halls of both shrines as proof of their shared origin. In the early Meiji period, it was classified as a Mura-sha (village shrine) under the modern shrine ranking system.
