Founded through the enshrinement of deities from Kumano Taisha in Izu District, Izumo Province, during the Bunroku period. Originally known as 'Gozu Tenno Sha' and serving as the tutelary shrine of the former Kino Village, it was renamed 'Yaei Shrine' in 1872 (Meiji 5). In 1910 (Meiji 43), the Okutsu Shrine of the former Okamura Village was merged into it.
