In 1887 (Meiji 20), a branch spirit from Atsuta Jingu (Atsuta Grand Shrine) was transferred and enshrined here, making it a branch shrine. In 1943 (Shōwa 18), the shrine was relocated to its current site to make way for the construction of an Army airfield. Major renovations of the shrine buildings were completed in 1999 (Heisei 11).
