Around the Genroku period, Katsujitsu Myojin became the main deity. In the 11th year of the Kan'ei era (1634 CE), the shrine grounds were relocated by order of the Kii Domain. In the 11th year of the Kanbun era (1671 CE), it was renamed Katsujitsu Shrine. In 1908 CE (Meiji 41), six nearby minor shrines, including Kasuga Shrine, were merged into this shrine.
