The shrine was founded when the villagers of Yamano Village, Katsushika District, Kozuke Province, enshrined the deity of Fuji Sengen Taisha (Fuji Sengen Grand Shrine) as their tutelary deity. Based on the dating of the sacred treasure known as the 'Kae-butsu' (hanging Buddha), it is estimated that the shrine existed from the late Kamakura period to the early Muromachi period.
