Founded in 1620 CE (Genna 6) by the priest Joren, it is said to have been revitalized by the priest Gikou of Yushima Enmanji. Originally a branch of Taba Tōkak-ji, it became a branch of Yōraku-ji after separating from its parent temple in 1910 CE (Meiji 43).
