The shrine is recorded as a Shikinaisha in the Engishiki Shinmyocho. In the first year of Kōchō (1260 CE), it was granted the divine rank of Shōichi-i. From the medieval period onward, its practical status rose due to its proximity to the provincial government office, leading to its reverence as the Ichinomiya of Hizen Province.
