Founded in the second year of Manji (1659 CE), the temple was established by the founder Daigu Roshi and the patron Yonezu Tamemori, the second head of the Yonezu family, serving as their family temple. Originally, only members of the Yonezu clan were parishioners, but it now accepts general parishioners as well. Although a fire in the 22nd year of Meiji (1889 CE) destroyed everything except the mountain gate, restoration and maintenance of the temple grounds are currently underway.
