The temple was founded by Monk Monryūkai as a branch temple of Yudoyama Shūrenji. The main hall was constructed in 1879 CE (Meiji 12), and the temple's foundation was formally established the following year in 1880 CE (Meiji 13). However, the structures were destroyed by a major fire in 1884 CE (Meiji 17).
