History
Originally located in Ono Village, Aichi District, it was a Zen temple named Zengyoji. It converted to Jodo Shinshu during the Meiyo era. It moved to its current location in the first year of the Bunko era (1501 CE). It was renamed Shozo-bo during the Eicho era, and later renamed Zengyoji in its current form during the Kan'ei era. It is said to have formerly been a branch temple of Shokanji in Mikawa Province.
