Dewasanzan Jinja (Dewasanzan Shrines)

A sacred site for the faith of the three mountains: Haguro-san, Gassan, and Yudono-san. It is a central location for Shugendo (ascetic mountain worship).
Overview
A sacred site of Shugendo known for the 'Journey of Rebirth,' where pilgrims visit the three mountains representing the present (Haguro-san), the past (Gassan), and the future (Yudono-san). The enshrined deities are Itahami-no-kami and Inakurahime-no-mikoto. It features a unique format where the deities of the three mountains are enshrined together at the Sangin-Gassai-den (Hall of the Three Combined Deities) at the summit of Haguro-san. Highlights include the 2,446 stone steps from the Zuishin-mon gate to the honden (main hall), and the National Treasure Haguro-san Goju-no-to (the oldest five-story pagoda in the Tohoku region) located along the path.
