Hokkaido Jingu (Hokkaido Grand Shrine)

The general guardian shrine of Hokkaido, enshrined in the Maruyama forest, dedicated to the guardian deities of Hokkaido's development.
Overview
The enshrined deities (kami) are the four figures: the Kaitaku Sanshin (the Three Deities of Development: Okunitama-no-kami, Onamuzuri-no-kami, and Sukunahikona-no-kami) and Emperor Meiji. Its origins date back to 1869 CE (Meiji 2), when the Kaitaku Sanshin were enshrined as the guardian deities of Hokkaido's development by imperial decree of Emperor Meiji; it was initially called Sapporo Jinja. In 1964, Emperor Meiji was added as an enshrined deity, and the name was changed to Hokkaido Jingu. Located in a lush forest adjacent to Maruyama Park, it is nationally famous as a scenic spot for cherry blossoms in the spring.
