Hakusan Hime Jinja (Hakusan Hime Shrine)

Overview

The enshrined deity is Hakusan Hime no Okami (Kukuri-hime no Mikoto). As the center of Hakusan faith, which reveres the sacred mountain of Hakusan (2,702 meters above sea level) as a Shintai-zan (sacred body mountain), it serves as the head shrine for more than 3,000 Hakusan shrines nationwide. It is also the first shrine of the Kaga Province. Kukuri-hime is a deity who does not appear in the Kojiki but is mentioned in a passage of the Nihon Shoki; she is said to have mediated between Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto and is worshipped as a deity who 'binds fate' or 'connects ties.'
